Grease and flour two 9 layer pans or one 9 x 13 pan Cream together untilfluffy: 2/3 cup softened shortening 1 2/3 cups sugar Beat in thoroughly 3eggs Blend together: 2/3 cup cocoa 1 1/3 cups cold water Sift together: 2cups sifted flour 1/2 teaspoon baking powder 1 1/2 teaspoon soda 1 teaspoonsalt Stir in alternately with cocoa water mixture.
Add 1 teaspoon vanilla.
Pour into prepared pans.
Bake until cake tests done.
Cool.
For astriking color contrast spread a snowy white frosting between layers andover top and sides.
Bake at 350- 30-35 minutes for layers and 35-45minutes for oblong.
