Old fashioned caramel candies are made by cooking sugar and butter until they reach a deep golden color, then adding cream and vanilla extract. The mixture is cooked until it thickens, then poured into a greased pan and left to cool. Once cooled, the caramels can be cut into squares and enjoyed.
Melt the butter, add the sugar, molasses and the milk and bring to a boil.
Cut the chocolate in small pieces and add, stirring constantly until thechocolate is melted.
Boil until the caramel forms a soft ball when droppedin cold water.
Add the extract and the nuts and pour into a greased pan.
Cool a little and when fairly firm, cut in squares.
