2 quarts whole milk1 quart heavy cream1 pound granulated sugar12 eggs1 teaspoon vanilla extract1 teaspoon nutmegInstructions1. Combine milk and cream in a large saucepan over medium heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, until mixture comes to a simmer.2. Add sugar, and whisk until dissolved.3. In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs and vanilla. Slowly pour egg mixture into milk mixture, whisking constantly.4. Cook over low heat until mixture thickens and coats the back of a spoon.5. Remove from heat, and stir in nutmeg.6. Serve egg nog warm, or refrigerate until chilled.
Measure one wineglass of whiskey or rum, add other ingredients (use wholemilk), shake thoroughly and strain.
Grate a little nutmeg on top and serve.
