This is a recipe for gammon (ham) steaks with whiskey sauce (Irish). The ingredients include gammon steaks, whiskey, beef stock, onion, garlic, flour, and butter. The steaks are pan-fried and then simmered in the whiskey sauce.
Brush steaks with melted butter.
Snip fat to prevent curling, and grillfor 7-8 minutes each side.
To make sauce, gently fry onions inremainder of butter until cooked.
Remove from heat and stir in flourgradually.
Add stock.
Return to heat.
Add sugar and bring to the boil.
Simmer gently for about 2 minutes to cook flour.
If sauce seems a littlethick, add more water.
Add whiskey and season to taste.
Place gammonsteaks on a warmed serving platter and pour on sauce.
Serve with peasand carrots, or sauteed potatoes.
